PTZ Camera - Pan Tilt Zoom

The PTZ Camera is a camera that has the ability to pan (move left to right), tilt (move up and down) and zoom in on a subject. Pan Tilt Zoom security cameras offer several benefits over the fixed or stationary video camera.

Pan and Tilt Features
The ability to Pan and Tilt allows for a wider range of video coverage. Before Pan Tilt Zoom Cameras were developed, monitoring a large area meant moving your camera from place to place in order to cover different areas at different times. This left certain areas vulnerable for a period of time. Otherwise you had to purchase more cameras that each covered part of an area, which increased expenses. The Pan tilt zoom camera has made it possible to monitor a wider range of area with just one camera.

Zoom Feature
The Zoom feature is great if you need super sharp images of something up close. This type of camera will zoom in or out in order to capture important details such as someone's face, a cashier at a cash register, a license plate etc.

Automatic or Manual
PTZ cameras can be set to automatically pan and tilt and zoom along a predetermined area continuously or can be manually monitored. A camera set on manual PTZ allows more control because the person controlling the camera can zoom in and follow a subject that a camera set on auto PTZ may miss. On the other hand a camera set to pan, tilt and zoom automatically does not require that someone be there continuously to control it.

Camera Controllers
PTZ Camera Controllers are used to control your Pan Tilt Zoom features of your cameras. There are several different varieties of PTZ Controllers. PTZ Controller keyboards, connect directly to your Cameras and allow you to control it with a joystick and keyboard, or PC-Based adapter allow you to control your camera directly from a PC via the internet.

Monitoring Via the Internet
PTZ IP cameras give you the unique ability to not only view live coverage of an area but also to control the pan tilt and zoom from a remote location. For many this is the perfect solution to keeping track of exactly what goes on when you can't be there.
