Alarm Monitoring Companies

Monitored alarm

Choosing between alarm monitoring companies.

Deciding to have a trained and experienced monitoring company watch over your alarm system is a good decision and a vital asset to the security of your your home, business, possessions and loved ones.

A good alarm monitoring company is there to continuously monitor and react when you can't. Their knowledge and experience allows them to react quickly and know what should be done.

It is important to know the difference between monitoring companies available in your area before you choose.

Here are some important things to consider that will help ensure you are getting a reputable and experienced company and the quality of monitoring you need.

Quotes and Fees

The monthly fees that alarm monitoring companies charge will vary according to your home and your home's security system. Ask each company to give you a detailed quote in writing. All quotes should be signed and dated. Make certain that the quote covers installation costs, length of contract, transferability, and what date they can start.

Company Credentials

Ask each company if they are a members of The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) and if their employees are trained and certified by them. The NBFAA has a National Code of Ethics that members agree to maintain. You can also ask the NBFAA to send you a list of members in your area. Also check to see if a company is a member of the local Better Business Bureau. If they are members the Better Business Bureau can tell you what standings they have in the community. It is also helpful to know how long they have been in business. Since young companies will not have a large amount of references to check on, you'll need to be cautious and do more research to assess their credibility. Also call the local law enforcement to see what type of reputation each company has with them.

Employee Credentials

Ask if the companies if they have done back ground checks on their technicians and any other employees that will be entering your home. Reputable security companies should not have any problem providing proof of their employees credentials. Also ask how long their technicians have been working for them.

References

After you have narrowed down your choices ask the monitoring companies to provide references. Ask the companies for at least 10 customer references and call them. Ask each customer about the company's installation, if the job was completed on time and within budget, quality of monitoring service and how comfortable they felt with the company's employees.

Guarantees and Cancellation Policies

One of the most important questions to ask, before you sign any long term contract is if the company has any cancellation policies. If you move or are unhappy with the service, some alarm monitoring companies' contracts can be very binding and difficult to get out of. Next be sure to ask each company if they offer Guarantees. They should offer both money back and theft protection guarantees.

Company Location

Ask the companies who exactly provides their alarm monitoring service and where the monitoring center is located. If your system needs repairs or service the company should be able to have a technician at your home within 24 hours or less. Your best choice would be with a company that has a local staff that knows your community and that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Response Time

Ask each company what procedure they follow if the alarm goes off. Their procedure should include calling the appropriate authorities as well as you. Also ask how long it will take them to respond. You'll want to know how long it takes them to call you and the police etc.

Back up System

Fiind out what the alarm monitoring companies do if there is a power outage at your home or at the monitoring station. Also you will want to find out what each monitoring company does if the telephone service gets interrupted. They should have an auxiliary communications system that will monitor your home security system if the telephone line is cut or disrupted for any reason.
