Board Camera

A board Camera is basically the bare minimum camera -- a lens mounted on a circuit board. They are generally used in making mini cameras, spy cameras, dome cameras and other small cameras.

They can be purchased already packaged in housing or they are available unpackaged so that the purchaser can mount them in a concealed object or location.

They are small enough to easily be concealed inside items such as alarm clocks, clothing, smoke detectors, wall clocks or well ....almost anywhere you need one to be. Board cameras also work great for making your own Nanny Cams.

Lenses

Most of these types of cameras use a pinhole lenses. These pinhole lenses are pre-mounted and have a fixed iris. This means that they only have one field of view (either normal, wide angle, or telephoto). In some situations this limitation of a fixed iris is not an issue, for instance inside a home, it can be the perfect low cost solution. If your project needs great quality video, choose a one of these cameras that does not have a pinhole lens. A larger lens features better color video, the ability to change lenses, and high resolution for better clarity. The only drawback is that because the lens is larger than a pinhole camera's lens the camera is harder to conceal.

Wired or Wireless

These bare minimum cameras are available in both wired or wireless versions. Wired cameras need to be connected to a DVR or VCR with a cable, which can make them harder to conceal. Wireless cameras transmit a wireless signal to a receiver that is connected to a DVR or VCR. These cameras can easily be hidden in places wired ones can not go and can easily be worn.
