Take into consideration your neighborhood safety. Is the neighborhood where you live safe? This is a question many don't bother to ask while living in a certain area or, when thinking about moving to a new area.
Both small towns and cities are divided up into neighborhoods. It can sometimes be hard to tell whether a certain neighborhood or area is safe or not. For unknown reasons one part of town may be extremely safe and the area just across the tracks may have a staggering number of residential and commercial thefts and break-ins. Unfortunately a lot of people find out, a little too late, that the neighborhood they chose to live in is unsafe.
We have compiled a list of questions to ask that will help determine whether an section of town or city is safe or not. It is much simpler than most people think and is a very important step to take to keep you and your family safe.It is important to be in the know. If you already live in an area, taking time to assess your its safety will help you be prepared and will close the window of opportunity for someone planning to break in or rob you.
Find out if your house is an Easy Target for a Burglary.
If you're thinking of moving to a new area, find out ahead of time what the neighborhood safety is like. It will save you a lot of heart ache and regret. Following is a list of questions that will help you be able to read any area and tell if you are safe there or not.
With these questions you'll find that the more YES answers you give the safer the neighborhood.
• Are there street lights on your streets that come on at night?
• Is there a Police Station near by?
• Is there a Fire Station near by?
• Are there a lot of rentals? If so are they likely to have long term or transient type renters?
• Do you notice any transients or loiterers?
• Do neighbors seem to know each other?
• Does your section of town have an active Crime Watch organization (or something similar)?
• Is your neighborhood free of cut-through traffic? (people using your streets as routes to get to businesses or other areas)
• Do you see people outside their homes in the evening, running, walking, sitting outside, etc?
• Do you see people outside their homes in the daytime, gardening, sitting outside, kids playing or walking to school, etc?

With these questions you'll find that the more NO answers you give the better the neighborhood safety.
• Have any of the people living in the area been burglarized in the last few years.
• Do any of the people currently living in the area know of any history of burglary, rape, assault or vandalism nearby?
• Do any of the people currently living in the area think the neighborhood is unsafe?
Questions to ask your local public safety agencies.
For these questions you'll need to contact your local law enforcement, fire department, rescue and other public agencies.
•Does the local police department have records of recently reported crimes in your area.
•If yes, do they have statistics of the following crimes:
-Theft -Robbery -Rape -Assault -Murder -Vandalism
•Do they see any patterns such as time of day or night of occurrences, victims and objects that attracted thieves, etc.
