Recording Systems
When choosing between recording systems you'll first need to look at the different options. There are two types of systems: Analog and Digital.
Analog With analog or CCTV (closed circuit television) the cameras capture footage, and transmit it back to the recording and monitoring unit (usually a modified VCR connected to a television) where they may be recorded and stored . Analog video recording has been around for years, but with the advancement of digital technology it is starting to become outdated. Analog video recorders require more maintenance and use more storage than digital. They also cost more to repair than digital and are a lot more difficult for
do-it-yourselfers
to install.
Digital Systems The digital system uses the digital video recorder (DVR) or a network video recorder(NVR) to capture footage using IP cameras which can then be stored to a software application either on a computer or a network server. There are several advantages to using DVR security systems such as higher quality video, ability to store more video, and ease and ability of having new cameras added to the system. Digital video products are becoming more and more popular but are not as affordable as analog yet. As more digital products become available online, interest will increase and it should drive the price down.
Lastly you'll need to decide if you will need the camera to be recording at all times or just when there is activity. If you only need it to record when there is activity you will need to make sure you purchase a
Motion Activated Camera.
